Yesterday for the second time in as many days, we broke an all time heat record. High temp was 110. 2nd day in a row. (heat index 115). Yesterday was the 32nd consecutive day of 100 plus heat. At nine pm last night, it was still 100 outside. We're having record heat usage as well and the energy provider is hinting at rolling blackouts if this continues. I'm so glad I put solar screens on my house this year - it has REALLY helped. The AC isn't running all the time and the house is much cooler.
That said, this heat is unbearable. We are actually on track to beat the old record set in 1980, the year my daughter was born. I went through that particular awful summer with a newborn (she was born in March) and remember it well. And rain? Fuggitaboutit. Our lakes are drying up and lawns are turning brown since we are beginning to see watering restrictions as well.
I keep telling myself I just have to get through August and September. And maybe get out of town. Soon.
